On February 6, in our section of the program L’Altra Ràdio (Ràdio 4, RNE), Javier Otero and Marcos Montero, heads of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Transformation at ThinkUPC, spoke about the growing role of AI and health, using projects from the latest Hackathon organized by the UPC’s Barcelona School of Informatics as an example.
During the broadcast, it was noted that 5% of global queries to artificial intelligence systems are already related to medical issues. In this context, the seventh edition of the Hackathon, held alongside the TV3 Marathon and focused on the fight against cancer, demonstrated how young talent applies technology to improve people’s lives. ThinkUPC actively participated by mentoring and sponsoring challenges, leading to innovative solutions such as:
- Relapse detection: machine learning systems have been developed to predict the risk of relapse in endometrial cancer and leukemia patients through the analysis of genetic markers.
- Treatment optimization: the use of machine learning to identify which treatments are most effective for certain childhood tumors.
- Emotional well-being: the creation of collaborative games to make hospital stays more pleasant for children and the monitoring of cognitive decline during chemotherapy.
If you want to learn more about how we apply AI and health to create a positive impact on society, we invite you to listen to the L’Altra Ràdio podcast (minute 32:25).
