26th UPC Prize in Architecture, Engineering, Science and Technology

At IThinkUPC, we have once again participated as members of the jury of the UPC Prize in Architecture, Engineering, Science and Sustainable Technologies, an award that acknowledges the best high school research projects and higher vocational training (CFGS) projects linked to the fields of knowledge of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), incorporating sustainability criteria in their design.

The award ceremony of this 26th edition took place on September 22 at the UPC Rectorate, with the participation of the Rector of the UPC and the Vice-Rector for Teaching and Students, as well as the award-winning students, representatives of the sponsoring and collaborating entities, and teachers from the winning schools.

The awarded projects in this 26th edition were:

  • Laia Puig Cucurella (Institut Lluís de Peguera, Manresa), winner in the High School category, for the project of a robotic hand to facilitate communication in sign language.

  • Carla Regla Sanmartí (Escola Massana, Barcelona), winner in the Higher Vocational Training (CFGS) category, for the design of a day centre for women in situations of violence.

  • Berta Calvo Cabanas (Les Alzines, Girona), recognised as a finalist in the High School category, for the project of a modular housing solution for climate emergencies.

At IThinkUPC, we warmly congratulate the award-winning students and encourage them to continue developing their talent and their scientific and technological vocation.

Javier Otero, Director of Artificial Intelligence at IThinkUPC and our organisation’s representative on the jury, highlights: “Every year it is very enriching to see the talent, creativity, and commitment of the students taking part in the Prize. It is inspiring to witness how future STEM professionals seek solutions with a positive impact on both people and the planet.

The Prize is made possible thanks to the support of RESA. Residencias Universitarias, as sponsor, and the collaboration of several institutions, including IThinkUPC, the University Institute for Research in Science and Sustainability Technologies, the Exploratory of Natural Resources, the Barcelona School of Architecture (ETSAB), the Vallès School of Architecture (ETSAV), and the UNESCO Chair in Sustainability at UPC.
