We facilitate the interconnection of Educaria’s academic platform, Alexia, with cloud-based SaaS services.
Challenge
Educaria, a leading company in education in Spain and Ibero-America, launched in 2009 its educational centers management and communication platform Alexia to meet its current and future needs in academic-administrative management. From the outset, Alexia stood out for its flexibility, innovative character, and rapid adaptability to new trends, qualities that position it at the forefront of educational management.
In line with its commitment to innovation and continuous improvement, Educaria asked us to revolutionize Alexia so that it could integrate with the best collaborative cloud tools on the market, such as Microsoft Office 365 and Google Suite for Education, thereby taking advantage of the free licensing agreements these companies offer to educational institutions.
Project
To achieve this goal, We have designed and implemented a RESTful API using .NET technology capable of interconnecting the Alexia platform with a multitude of cloud SaaS services. The first two services integrated are Microsoft Office 365 and Google Suite for Education, but the architecture has been designed in a way that allows for the easy addition of new services.
The integration and interoperability mechanisms we developed for Alexia allow it to:
- Utilize its own structure of users and roles.
- Scale when demand requires.
- Temporarily manage the unavailability of a specific cloud service.
- Make the complexity of the integration transparent.
Results
This solution, already used by 1,200 state schools and soon to be introduced to the South American market, allows Alexia platform users to enjoy popular, high-quality cloud services such as Gmail, Calendar, and Drive from Google or Outlook, Calendar, and OneDrive from Microsoft Office.
Additionally, the ease of integration with leading collaborative cloud tools has contributed to Alexia being awarded Best Platform at the SIMO Educación 2016 Awards for Educational Innovation.
