The new ÀGORA service, hosted on Amazon Web Services (AWS), will offer 2,000 virtual campuses and 2,000 school websites for more than 2,500 educational centers throughout Catalonia.
ÀGORA is a multi-hosting system provided by the Department of Education of the Generalitat de Catalunya since 2007. It offers educational centers in Catalonia virtual learning environment services (based on Moodle) and school website services (based on WordPress). IThinkUPC participated in the creation of the ÀGORA project and has since managed the platform, being responsible for its maintenance and evolution.
Driven by the continuous improvement process of the ÀGORA service, and following a benchmarking process of cloud tools, it was decided to migrate this service to Amazon Web Services (AWS) to enhance its scalability and maintainability.
The migration project of the ÀGORA service to AWS began in October 2019 and is expected to be completed by July 2020. Thanks to this project, starting in September, the Department of Education will have a new ÀGORA service on AWS that will offer over 4,000 services to more than 2,500 educational centers throughout Catalonia. This new service is scalable, agile, robust, secure, and more cost-effective to maintain than the current one.
