We designed and implemented an innovative AI-based solution that facilitates student academic guidance and reduces the risk of school dropout.
The Department of Education and Vocational Training of the Government of Catalonia wanted to provide Vocational Education and Training (VET) students with more efficient and personalized academic guidance. The absence of an agile technological tool could lead to misinformation and hinder an appropriate choice of educational pathways, consequently increasing the risk of dropout. The need was clear: to have a solution capable of providing immediate advice on qualifications, prerequisites, and regulations, and that would help connect students’ vocations with the existing training offer.
In this context, at IThinkUPC we designed and implemented an intelligent chatbot based on artificial intelligence techniques and advanced language models (LLM), capable of quickly and personally answering questions about VET study programs. In addition, we carried out the structured indexing of official documentation into vector databases using a RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) architecture and defined behavior rules and prompts to ensure reliable and consistent responses. This project has placed the Department at the forefront of the use of digital technologies for academic guidance.
